New installers for WorldServer, Online Editor, and the Report Center
For this version of WorldServer, new installers are available out-of-the-box for WorldServer, Online Editor, and the Report Center. The WorldServer installer delivered in 11.8 builds on its previous versions, adding features such as the ability to set up a database from scratch and to configure parameters such as the number of workflow engines or API background engines, so that your WorldServer environment can be ready to go as soon as the installation has been completed. The Report Center and Online Editor installers, on the other hand, are brand new and are meant to streamline procedures that used to be complex and time-consuming.
Post-editing distance (PED) calculation
Post-editing distance is an indicator used to assess the quality of a machine translation (MT) provider or engine by measuring the changes from a starting point (usually a machine-translated segment) to an end point (usually a segment approved by a reviewer). If the starting point is of good quality, it requires fewer human changes. You can use PED reports to compare different MT providers or to assess the quality of the MT engine used for a specific language, which may lead to a decision to retrain the engine.
Although post-editing distance is usually associated with machine translation, you can also use it in WorldServer to assess the quality of the content in a TM or of a human translation.
Enhancements for project managers
- Add new target locales.
- Remove existing target locales.
- Configure target locales for each file.
- Add new translatable files.
- Remove existing translatable files.
- Change the name and description of any project group.
This feature is governed by a new permission called Project Group Management, which is enabled by default for the Administrators and Project Managers user types.
New and improved reports in the Report Center
- TQA by Date Range report: A new report called TQA by Date Range is available in the Report Center. After you specify a start date and an end date, the following information is displayed: project name and ID, task file name and task ID, source and target language, number of translation quality assessments for each category and severity. The recommended export and printing format for this report is PDF. To find out more about the reports available by default in the Report Center, see Reports available in the Report Center.
- Improvements to existing reports: Extended the TQA Task Details, TQA Task Severity Occurrence, and TQA Task Summary reports to display information about active and completed or archived tasks. Also fixed an issue which affected multiple reports if a project had no translatable words.
Security enhancements
A significant number of security enhancements have been included in this release; one of the most notable consists in allowing administrators to implement a stricter password policy when using enhanced authentication. Thus, administrators can restrict certain terms so that users cannot include them in their passwords. To find out more, see Configuring enhanced authentication.
User interface improvements
- On the WorldServer 11 interface, the page is now resized when the navigation menu is expanded.
- Adopted a tile-based display on the WorldServer 11 interface to facilitate interactions on mobile devices. Selecting any part of a tile will take you to its corresponding page.
- Reduced loading times on the Projects page of the WorldServer 11 interface.
- You can now search for the values of most types of custom project attributes on the WorldServer 11 interface, except for image-type custom attributes.
- You can now sort the Cost Model, Source Locale, and Description columns on the Projects page of the WorldServer 11 interface.
- Added a column (Workflow) which displays the workflow name of a project to the Projects page in WorldServer.
- On the Projects page of the Classic interface, very long project names and descriptions are now truncated and displayed in a tooltip to reduce the need for scrolling horizontally.
- To ensure consistency, the progress bar on the Classic interface is now displayed for the % Translated and % Reviewed columns even if the percentage value is zero.
- Added multiple searchable columns to the page.
- Added a new column called Filter ID to the File Types page. This ID is useful when trying to map language resource templates to file type configurations.
