Roles and Tool Boxes

Contenta users are assigned at least one role when the users’ desktops are created.

Roles are associated with tasks when the ProjMan or SysAdmin configures the project workflow. When a role is associated with a task, users assigned that role can be assigned to the task.

Each role has a tool box associated with it. The tool box determines the tools to which a user has access when performing within the role. While working in a ContentRoutingProject, a user can use any of the tools in his/her role tool box.

See Projects and Workflow for more information about projects and workflows.

A tool box is the set of tools that are grouped together for a specific role or for assignment to an individual user for use on their desktop.

Example:A user in a writer role may have an editor tool assigned to him/her so s/he can write or modify data while a user in the reviewer role may not have an editor tool assigned. The tools assigned to the role tool box are related to the tasks the user must perform when in the role.

The tools assigned to tool boxes are specific for each Contenta object

Example:The XMetaL Editor tool is assigned to the CompoundAscii object but not assigned to the Configuration object. It is appropriate for a XMetaL Editor tool to be assigned to an object that contains XML data; the Configuration object does not.
