Copying an Object's Reference Information

Copying reference information and pasting it into another document helps to ensure that the reference is accurate.

About this task

You can copy a DM's, PM's, SCORM Content Package's, or graphic's reference information to your clipboard so you can paste it into another document. This feature allows you to insert references without having to manually add the markup.

Depending on the object whose reference you want, different information is copied. The reference tag structure is different between pre-S1000D Issue 4.0 and S1000D Issue 4.0 or higher specifications. Copy the set of tags that pertains to the specification version you are using.

To insert references from within Arbortext Editor instead, see the "Inserting a reference to a ..." topics earlier in this chapter.

Procedure

  1. In SDL Contenta S1000D, navigate to the DM, PM, SCPM, or graphic that you want to reference.
  2. Click Tools, then click S1000D Clip Reference.
Note the S1000D version that is displayed above the frame(s). You can copy markup from the frame to paste into your file.
    • The markup shown in the top frame or in a single frame display matches the version of the markup in the topic that you selected to clip reference. That data is copied directly to your computer's clipboard.
    • In a two-frame display, the top and bottom frames display different markup, one for S1000D Issue 4.0 or higher, and one for pre-4.0. For data modules only, the Click here link above the pre-4.0 frame provides access to an alternate markup structure.
  3. Paste the reference XML into your file at a location where the reference tag is valid.
