Exploring the comments pane

The Comments pane lets you add, reply to, or delete comments. You access this pane from an open topic viewed in a Collaborative Review page. You can also access the Comments pane from Publication Manager.

Within the Comments pane:
An indication of the number of comments added to this topic.
A show/hide button for the Comments pane.
An expand/collapse button for comment detail (such as replies to the comments and the Reply to comment type-in field).
A new topic-level comment button.
A show referenced text (T) button.
An Options (gear button) menu for status.
A trash can button to remove a comment (and replies)

Topic-level Comments

Topic-level comments apply to the entire topic. In the Comments pane on the right:
  • Topic-level comments appear at the top of the Comments pane, ordered newest (at the top) to oldest (at the bottom).
  • Inside a comment, the most-recent replies appear at the bottom of the Comments pane, ordered oldest (at the top) to newest (at the bottom).

Inline Comments

An inline comment applies to the content that was selected when the comment was added. In the Comments pane on the right, comments appear with the most-recent on the top; replies appear with the most-recent on the bottom.

The Add Comment bubble briefly appears as you select text or a graphic.

Graphics and Multimedia Objects

Adding an inline comment to a graphic- or multimedia-object (no text selected) renders a thick border around the object and the value of the title attribute appears in the Comments pane. If there is not a title attribute or alt attribute defined, the message No reference text found for this media appears instead.

Comment Replies

Comment replies appear subordinate to the original comment. You can see them by clicking the (T) button. Within a comment, user replies are ordered from oldest (at the top) to newest (at the bottom).
