Preparing for translation
You prepare for the creation of language objects by defining metadata fields for the map and topics. Depending on how you define the metadata, language objects are created when you release objects.

The tables below describes the scenario previously outlined for the map, four (4) topics, and two (2) publications.

Object Enable Translation Management Requested Languages Map Select Enable Translation Management Specify Requested Languages: Dutch and German if you want the language objects created when the map is released.
If there are no Requested Languages defined, the language objects can be created using the web interface Translation option.
Topic: Notice
Should not be translated because it contains product names and information that are to remain in the native language. Do not enable translation management. This ensures that no language objects are created.
Do not specify; not applicable. Topics: Introduction
How to use the product
Select Enable Translation Management To be included in both publications.
Specify Requested Languages: Dutch and German if you want the language objects created when the topic is released. Do not specify Requested Languages if you want the topic to inherit languages or want to manually choose language objects to create.
Topic: How to install and configure the product
Select Enable Translation Management To be included in the Administration Guide only.
Specify Requested Languages: Dutch if you want the language object created when the topic is released. Do not specify Requested Languages if you want the topic to inherit languages or want to manually choose language objects to create.
When Requested Languages is defined for the map, the language objects are created when the map is released. In the scenario above:- Dutch and German language objects are created.
- Dutch and German are inherited by the topics if the map is in a released status when the topic is released.
When Requested Languages is defined for the topics, the language objects are created when the topic is released. In the scenario above:- Dutch and German language objects are created for the Introduction and How to use the product
- Dutch language object is created for How to install and configure the product.
If Requested Languages is not defined:
- For the topic, the languages are inherited from the map if the map contains Requested Languages and is in a released status when the topic is released.
- For the topic or the map, language objects can be created using the web interface Translation option.

Publication User Guide Requested Languages: Dutch and German Source language is English, but this publication is also used in Belgium and Germany so must be available in Dutch and German.
Specify an output type to use when you publish. When creating the output type be sure to specify the fallback language since it cannot later be specified for an existing output type. When added, you specify the fallback language for:- Topics and Maps
- Images
- Library topics
Set the condition that specifies that the How to install and configure the product information is to be excluded from the publication.
Administration Guide Requested Languages: Dutch Source language is English, but this publication is used in Belgium so must be available in Dutch. German is not required.
