Packaging content for delivery on CD/DVD-ROM

To distribute a collection containing a generated set of publications into the field, use LiveContent S1000D's Collection Publish tool. This tool prepares a package of a collection, the required libraries, the program files and an installer. It stores the package in a target directory so that you can burn it onto a CD/DVD-ROM.

About this task

The Collection Publish tool gives each CD/DVD-ROM package a unique name to identify the package contents. In the field, this unique identifier is used to identify collections that should be updated.

For example, the Collection Publish tool might package a collection containing only the Bike publication, and give that package an identifier BIKE2009. When you later add new Bike content plus an all-new Motor Bike to the collection, package the collection with the same identifier, BIKE2009. By doing so, users who installed the earlier version of the collection will have their content updated.

Procedure

  1. Depending on your operating system, open a Windows command prompt or Linux terminal.
  2. On the command prompt, navigate to the LiveContent S1000D home directory, where the Collection Publish tool is located.
  3. Enter the following command:
    CollectionPub COLLECTIONDIR CDIMAGEDIR
    where:
    • COLLECTIONDIR is the your collection directory.
    • CDIMAGEDIR is the target location for the package, for example, C:\Users\jonhdoe\LiveContentData\cdimages\myPackage001 (on Windows) or /opt/XyEnterprise/LiveContentData/cdimages/myPackage001 (on Linux). The last folder in the path (myPackage001 in this example) will be used as the unique identifier of the package.
The tool packages all publications, styles and httpdocs referenced by the configuration file of this collection (wietmsd.xml) and saves the resulting package in the target directory.
  4. Navigate to the target directory you specified.
  5. If you distribute your collection on a physical CD/DVD-ROM, burn the contents of the target directory (but not the directory itself) to a CD/DVD-ROM.
  6. To verify the package, do one of the following:
    • If you burned the collection onto a physical CD/DVD-ROM, insert the CD/DVD-ROM into a Windows computer.
    • Otherwise, open the CD image.
  7. In the LiveContent S1000D login screen that opens, log in as admin (password defaults to admin).
  8. Select a publication to view in LiveContent S1000D.
