Batch edit translation units

You can edit translation units (TUs) via batch tasks, to commit changes to your translation memory (TM) automatically.

Before you start

Procedure

  1. In the Translation Memories view, if the translation memory you want to edit is not in the navigation tree, open the translation memory (select File > Open > Open Translation Memory).
  2. If you want to edit a set of translation units (not the entire translation memory), the filter that will select the translation units must exist before you start the Batch Edit wizard. Click How to Create a Filter to find out how to create a filter.

To batch edit a translation memory:

Procedure

  1. In the Translation Memories view, make the translation memory for which you want to batch edit translation units the .
  2. Select Home tab > Batch Edit (or you can right-click the translation memory and select Batch Edit from the shortcut menu). The Batch Edit wizard is displayed on the page.

    you want to use a batch edit script that was previously saved to a file,

    click Load, the Open TM Batch Edit Script dialog box is displayed. Browse to the file, select it and click Open. The settings stored in the file are loaded into the Batch Edit Script page. You can either:
    • Edit the settings before performing the batch edit, or
    • Perform the batch edit using the settings as they are. If you choose this option, go to step 6.
  3. Specify how you want to apply the batch edit:

    you do not want to apply the edit to the entire translation memory,select a filter that identifies the translation units you want to edit.
    you want all of the edit actions to be applied to matching translation units,select Always execute all edit actions in the list for each TU in the Continuation box.
    after applying one edit to a translation unit, you do not want further edits to be made to the same translation unit,select Only allow one edit action to change each TU in the Continuation box.
  4. Click Add and select the type of edit you want to perform:

    you choose Find and Replace Text,the Edit Action: Find and Replace Text dialog box is displayed. Complete this dialog box and click OK to add the edit action to the list in the Action box.
    you choose Change Field Values,the Edit Action: Change Field Value dialog box is displayed. Complete this dialog box and click OK to add the edit action to the list in the Action box.
    you choose Delete Field Values,the Edit Action: Delete Field Value dialog box is displayed. Complete this dialog box and click OK to add the edit action to the list in the Action box.
    you choose Delete Tagsthe Edit Action: Delete Tags dialog box is displayed. Complete this dialog box and click OK to add the edit action to the list in the Action box.
  5. Repeat step 4 until all of the required edit actions have been added to the Action box.
    • If the actions need to be applied in a particular order, use the Move Up and Move Down buttons to put the actions into the required order.

  6. If you want to save this batch edit script to a file, click Save and complete the Save TM Batch Edit Script dialog box.
  7. Click Finish. SDL Trados Studio starts editing translation units and the Applying Batch Edit Script page is displayed.
  8. When the batch edit is complete, click Close to close the wizard.
    • If the batch edit has produced errors, click Show Error Details to view the error details.
