Editing the Abbreviation list
When segmenting text, SDL Trados Studio also uses a default list of abbreviations for each source language. This list ensures that abbreviations do not incorrectly trigger a segment break after the full stop.
About this task
The Abbreviations List is stored in the language resources of your translation memory (TM). To add your own abbreviations to the list, edit the default language resource of your TM. You can edit the language resource for an existing TM in the Translation Memories view. Alternatively, you can also create a language resource template with a custom Abbreviation List that you can then apply to all future project TMs.
To customize the list of standard abbreviations for a translation memory or language resource template:
Procedure
- Open the translation memory or language resource template in the Translation Memories view.
- In the navigation pane at the top-left, select your translation memory or language resource template to activate it.
- Click Settings on the Home tab.
- Select the Language Resources branch and double-click on Abbreviation List.
- To edit an existing entry, double-click the entry and make the required change.
- To add a new entry, scroll to the bottom of the existing list, double-click the first empty row and type the new entry.
