Upgrading SDL Tridion

This section describes how to upgrade from an earlier version of SDL Tridion to the latest version.

Upgrading SDL Tridion involves performing the following steps:

Upgrading Content Manager databases
Upgrade your Content Manager databases using the SDL Tridion Database Manager tool.
Upgrading add-on products
Before upgrading to Content Manager of SDL Tridion 2011 SP1, you must uninstall add-on products. This section explains which versions of add on products are compatible with SDL Tridion 2011 SP1.
Upgrading the Content Manager server
Upgrade your Content Manager Server and related features such as Visio Workflow and WebDAV Connector by running the installer. If you are upgrading from a version prior to SDL Tridion 2011, you first need to uninstall Content Manager.
Upgrading the Content Manager Explorer client
Upgrade the Web-based Content Manager Explorer client by checking changes prerequisites and clearing the Internet cache.
Upgrading the Workflow Designer client
Upgrade Workflow Designer by uninstalling and reinstalling the product on each client machine.
Upgrading or setting up .NET assembly templating
Upgrade (or install) .NET assembly templating by copying resource files. You can install .NET assembly templating on the same machine as Template Builder.
Upgrading or setting up Template Builder
Upgrade (or install) Template Builder on a client machine by running the installer from the Tools tab of Content Manager Explorer.
Upgrading or setting up Dreamweaver Templating
Upgrade (or install) Dreamweaver Templating by connecting to the Content Manager from Adobe Dreamweaver using WebDAV. This is explained as part of the installation documentation.
Upgrading the Content Data Store
Upgrade the Content Data Store (the database used by Content Delivery modules) using the SDL Tridion Database Manager tool (for Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server) or manually using the scripts provided for IBM DB2. You do not need to perform this step if you are using a file system for storage instead of a database.
Upgrading Content Delivery
Content Delivery consists of various Server Roles that run as a Web application, Windows service or Java process. Upgrade your Server Roles by removing obsolete JAR files, updating JAR files, adding resources, downloading and (re)installing third-party libraries, updating configuration files and migrating Content Delivery functionality.
Upgrading Audience Manager and Outbound E-mail
Upgrade the various Audience Manager and Outbound E-mail databases using the Tridion Database Manager, upgrade the Content Manager Server side by running the installer, and upgrade Synchronization Server and Presentation Server by updating the JAR files (and DLLs for .NET) and other resources used in these Web applications.
Upgrading Translation Manager
Upgrade the Translation Manager databases using the Tridion Database Manager, uninstall Translation Manager then reinstall Translation Manager using the Content Manager installer, run the upgrade utility tool to upgrade your Publication translation configuration , upgrade your TranslationManager.xml configuration file, and ufinally pgrade your Schemas if you are using SDL WorldServer 10.1 or SDL TMS 2011 SP1.
