What's new in Audience Manager and Outbound E-mail 2011
This section describes what's new and what has changed in Audience Manager and Outbound E-mail between versions 2009 and 2011.

The organization of Audience Manager and Outbound E-mail content items in the Content Manager Explorer has changed as of SDL Tridion 2011. - Segments
Segments are new to Audience Manager 2011. A Segment defines Contact preferences, interests and characteristics that represent a target audience of known Contacts accessing content on your Web sites. You can base a Segment on another Segment so that you can create generic Segments and progressively more specific Segments to create a chain of filters whereby each filter in the chain further refines the selection. - Changes to Address Books

This section describes changes to Content Delivery configuration of Outbound E-mail and Audience Manager in 2011. - Changes to Dynamic Distribution Lists
In SDL Tridion 2009, a Dynamic Distribution List contained General, Details, and Categories and Keywords tabs. As of SDL Tridion 2011, a Dynamic Distribution List has, in addition, an Outbound E-mail tab which contains fields specific to Outbound E-mail which were previously on the General tab. - Changes to Outbound E-mail Folders
In SDL Tridion 2011 SP1, Outbound E-mail Folders are used in the Audience Manager node to organize your Segments (introduced in 2011), and in the Outbound E-mail node to organize your Mailings and Distribution Lists (as in 2009). - Changes to rights and permissions
A new right Segment Management rights has been added to allow you to set up user rights and permissions to restrict access to Segments and specify the tasks a user is, or is not allowed, to perform. Users with access to a Publication and Segment Management rights can perform actions on Segments, depending on their permissions. - Changes to Audience Manager and Outbound E-mail APIs
