Defining a Query Parameter to be matched

A parameter to be matched is a name-value pair in the URL (of the link clicked by the user to access your Web site) that identifies the location from where the user accessed your Web site.

About this task

This task describes how to define a query in Query Builder that uses Parameter to be matched. For examples of defining queries, see Query Builder use cases.

Procedure

  1. Open the Online Marketing Explorer.
  2. Open an Initiative.
  3. Select a Predefined Entry Asset or Custom Entry Asset.
  4. Select the Asset in the Assets properties, click Open the Entry Asset Query Builder:
  5. In the Query Builder, select Parameter to be matched:
You can define a query by adding conditions, where each row represents a single condition that must be satisfied for the query to match. You can add several conditions to the query and you can group these conditions. The conditions within a group, and the conditions between groups, can be AND conditions or OR conditions:
    • In an AND condition, both conditions need to be satisfied for the query to be matched.
    • In an OR condition, one of the conditions needs to be satisfied for the query to be matched
  6. Define a query in the Query Builder using the following options:
    1. Select Include or Exclude to include or exclude the condition in the following drop-down menu:
    2. The Query Parameter to be matched is always set to Query:
    3. Choose whether the condition requires an exact match (Is) or partial match (Contains) in the following drop-down menu:
    4. Enter a name=value pair for a Query condition:
    5. Add another condition to the query—to further refine it—by clicking the plus sign next to the row. Choose whether the condition you are adding is an and condition (both conditions need to be satisfied for the query to be matched) or an or condition (one of the conditions needs to be satisfied for the query to be matched):
    6. Add another condition group by clicking the group plus sign. Choose whether the condition you are adding is an and condition (both conditions need to be satisfied for the query to be matched) or an or condition (one of the conditions needs to be satisfied for the query to be matched):
  7. In the Generate Landing Page URL, enter the Web site URL of the Landing Page into which visitors are brought into the Initiative and click Generate:
A query is generated for visitors to access your landing page. You can then publish the link on the appropriate Web site, for example Twitter. When users click the link, they are directed to your Initiative Landing Page.
  8. Click OK to close the Query Builder.
  9. Save the Initiative.
