Editing standalone images on a webpage

While editing a webpage in Experience Manager, you can open standalone images on the page (images contained in a Multimedia Component) to perform basic editing, such as cropping and resizing.

About this task

Images on a webpage are frequently added to the page as standalone images, where they are inserted as Multimedia Links and are contained within Multimedia Components. When you edit these images (or any Multimedia Component), it is important to be aware that your changes affect every instance of the image (or Multimedia Component) throughout the website.

While editing a standalone image in Experience Manager, you can perform the following image editing tasks:

  • Crop
  • Resize
  • Rotate and Flip

While you are editing the image in the built-in editor, you can use the Undo and Redo buttons to undo or redo, respectively, at most ten edit actions (crop, resize, rotate or flip) that you have performed.

Procedure

  1. In Experience Manager, locate the image you want to edit.
  2. Use any of the following methods to open the image for editing:
    • Edit Image button on the Home ribbon toolbar
    • Edit button on the Multimedia Link Properties popup box
    • Edit button on the properties panel
The following illustration highlights the three options for editing an image:
Regardless of the method you choose, the image opens in a new window. Refer to the topics on cropping, resizing, and rotating images for details on those specific editing tasks.
