Installing Search on a dedicated machine
To optimize search performance in an enterprise environment, you need to install Search on one or more dedicated machines.
Note: To perform a basic search performance optimization, configure additional allocated threads for search indexing in the Content Manager configuration file, Tridion.ContentManager.config.

To outscale Search, set up a Search Host Primary Server and multiple Search Host Replica Servers behind a Network Load Balancer. On the Content Manager Server, configure the Search Query Engine—integrated with the Content Manager Server—to communicate with the Network Load Balancer, and Search Indexer service to communicate to the Primary Server (for indexing). - Installing a Search Host Server on a dedicated machine
You can install a separate Search Host service on a dedicated machine by running the Content Manager installer. The Search Host service requires the Core Service and Content Manager core to run. - Configuring a Search Host Primary Server
To install a Search Host Primary Server, configure your Search Host as the Primary Server in the Search Host configuration tool. - Configuring Search Host Replica Servers
To install a Search Host Replica Server, specify the location and credentials of the Primary Server in the Search Host configuration tool. - Configuring the Search Indexer service to point to the Primary Server
On the machine where the Search Indexer service is running, configure the URL, username and password of the Primary Server in the Content Manager configuration file, Tridion.ContentManager.config. - Configuring the Replica Servers in Search Query Engine
On each Content Manager machine, configure the Search Query Engine to point to the Search Host service or Network Load Balancer in the Content Manager configuration file, Tridion.ContentManager.config.
