Using the Template Builder desktop application, create a Page Template that uses the design items you copied.
Procedure
- In Content Manager Explorer, in the Tools Ribbon tab, select Template Builder.
Template Builder opens.
- Select and in the dialog that opens, navigate to Building Blocks\System\Templates\Page Templates\.
- Call the Template "Main" and set the type to Page Template. Then click OK to create the Template and close the dialog.
- In the main view, in the Building Blocks panel, from the Design group, drag the Template Building Block called Page Template Design into the middle area.
- In the same panel, from the Default Templates group, drag Default Finish Actions into the middle area, below Page Template Design.
- In the toolbar, press Run (the button with the arrowhead pointing to the right) and in the Open Page dialog that opened, select Test Page, the Page that you created in the root Structure Group. Click OK to close the dialog and run the Template.
- When the Template has run, select the item Result in the content area.
- In the Package panel below it, select the item with the value Output in the name column.
The Item View panel on the right shows a preview of the rendered Web page.
- Save and close your Page Template.
- Access Content Manager Explorer and navigate to the root Structure Group. Open Test Page in this location and in its dialog, clear the Inherit from Parent option, and change the Page Template from Default Page Template to Main.
Results
You now have a Page Template, but it includes the contents of your original HTML page as hardcoded contents. Obviously, the contents of the articles on that Web page are not part of your design, but their look-and-feel and layout are. Create the article-level design(s) separately by creating a Schema, one or more Components, and a Component Template, as explained in the Quick Guide to creating a Component Template. Then return to this Quick Guide.
