Software components installed by the Content Manager installer

Use the Content Manager installer to install both core software components (the default) and additional, nonessential features or legacy features.

Core software components

By default, the installer installs only the SDL Tridion Sites Content Manager server-side application, which contains the following:

A module that publishes all content from SDL Tridion Sites Content Manager.

Batch Processor Service

A scalable service for processing multiple items in batch.

Search Indexing Service

A module that indexes content from SDL Tridion Sites Content Manager.

Workflow Agent Service

A module that executes scripts defined in SDL Tridion Sites Content Manager workflow processes.

Interfaces
Various user interfaces to SDL Tridion Sites Content Manager:
  • IISHost: a module that is required for the Core Service, a Web service used for integration of your external application with the Content Manager core.

  • Visio Workflow Server: a server-side module that lets you define workflow processes using SDL Tridion Sites Workflow Designer.

  • WebDAV Server: a module that lets you access SDL Tridion Sites Content Manager from any WebDAV-compliant client application or operating system.

  • Monitoring Agent Web Service: a module that provides monitoring of SDL Tridion Sites Services.

  • Template Builder: an interface for assembling Template Building Blocks together into a Compound Template. Template belongs to the Templating feature.

Monitoring Server

A module that lets you monitor SDL Tridion Sites Services.

Templating

A Modular Templating Framework that enables you to create C#, .NET assembly, and Dreamweaver Template Building Blocks (TBBs). A TBB performs a modular task.

Search Host Service

A module supporting the outscaling of the Search Index Server so that you can set up a Search Host Master Server for indexing (and optionally search) and any number of SDL Tridion Sites Search Host Slave Servers, only for search.

User interfaces
Various interfaces to SDL Tridion Sites Content Manager:
  • Content Manager UI core: core components for browser-based user interfaces.

  • Content Manager Explorer: the browser-based content management interface. You can choose to install or not install its Documentation separately.

  • Experience Manager: the browser-based content authoring interface, which breaks down into:
    • Experience Manager core: core components

    • Experience Manager GUI: user interface components

    • Device Preview: a feature to preview and edit content in Experience Manager as it is displayed in a handheld device such as a mobile, smartphone, or tablet

External Content Library

A module for exposing multimedia contained in an external system in SDL Tridion Sites so that you can use the media in SDL Tridion Sites-driven Web sites.

Context Expressions

A feature for defining Target Groups by context expressions supplied by the SDL DXA Context Expression Module, and publishing them to a Presentation Server.

Topology Manager

Topology Manager forms the bridge between the Content Manager and Content Delivery environments. By decoupling the two environments, it becomes easy to swap out environments on either side, and to separate concerns by specific roles in your organization.

Experience Optimization

Experience Optimization integrates SDL Tridion Sites with Elasticsearch so that you can create and manage targeted content for SDL Tridion Sites-driven websites.

Nonessential software components

In addition, you can select the following nonessential features. Note that some of these require their own database and are therefore best installed separately:
Audience Manager
A module for gathering information about Contacts and audiences such as interests, preferences and characteristic. This features breaks down into the following components:

User Generated Content

A module that allows visitors to your Web site to rate your content and leave comments and then manage these ratings and comments.

Translation Manager
A module that allows you to send content stored in the Content Manager of SDL Tridion Sites for translation to a translation management system. This features breaks down into the following components:

Translation Manager ServiceSynchronizes data (translation jobs and items in translations jobs) between the translation management system and Content Manager.

Legacy software components

Finally, the following are legacy features, which you should only install if you are installing on a new machine, but upgrading from an earlier version that uses the legacy feature you select. Legacy features are only selectable in the installer if you run the installer from the command line with LEGACY_VISIBLE=TRUE. The following legacy features exist:
SpellChecker

A now-deprecated feature to check the spelling of the textual content of your content items in several languages.

Outbound E-mail
A module for managing email campaigns (mailings and distribution lists). This module breaks down into the following components:

Script ExtensionA feature to create Page Templates or Component Templates using VBScript or Jscript (supported for backwards compatibility)
Queue Triggered Mailings serviceA feature to handle triggered mailings.
Bounce Processor serviceA feature to keep track of bounced emails and to update the mailing statistics by periodically polling a preconfigured POP3 or IMAP mailbox account for bounced emails.
Collect Tracking Data serviceA feature to retrieve tracking information from the Tracking database on the presentation side.
