Types of Content Manager clients and types of SSO authentication
Depending on whether a Content Manager client is a desktop client or a browser client, different types of SSO authentication are supported.
Content Manager has two types of clients:
- Browser-based clients: Content Manager Explorer and Experience Manager
- Desktop clients such as Content Porter and Template Builder, or add-ons to third-party desktop applications, such as the Visio Workflow Designer.
SSO supports two types of authentication:
- Basic SSO authentication, where the user sees a login prompt asking for a username and password
- Form-based authentication, where the user is redirected to a configured webpage for entering a username and password, after which the user is redirected back to the original webpage they were trying to access.
Client types and SSO authentication types combine as follows:
| Basic SSO authentication | Form-based SSO authentication | |
|---|---|---|
| Browser-based client | supported | supported |
| Desktop client | supported | not supported |
