Upgrading WebForms Tools

Before you begin

If you are upgrading WebForms Tools to work with an SDL Tridion 2013 or SDL Tridion 2013 SP1 implementation, and your Content Delivery implementation is Java only, then you need to obtain Hotfix 86950 for WebForms 2010 SP1. You can do so by contacting SDL Customer Support.

About this task

WebForms Tools is the name for the two WebForms GUI applications, WebForms Field Type Editor and WebForms Designer.

To upgrade WebForms Tools, do the following:

Procedure

  1. In your existing implementation of WebForms, you may have created custom property description files and/or translations of property description files. These are XML files that you created in the WebForms Designer root directory on the server, and in subdirectories that carry the name of a language (for example, fr-CA or de). Back up these files to a safe location.
Refer to the documentation portal for more information about property description files.
  2. Uninstall the existing version of WebForms Tools as follows:
    • On the machine that runs SDL Tridion Content Manager (server side), access the Windows Control Panel.
    • Select Add or Remove Programs. The Add or Remove Programs window opens.
    • From the list of installed software products, select Tridion WebForms Tools 1.1, SDL Tridion WebForms Tools 1.1 SP1 or SDL Tridion WebForms Tools 2010, and click Remove.
    • Perform the steps of the installation wizard to uninstall the existing version of WebForms Tools.
    • From the same list, select Tridion .NET Client and click Remove.
    • Perform the steps of the installation wizard to uninstall the .NET Client.
  3. Next, refer to the installation topics to learn how to use the installer to install WebForms Tools, that is, WebForms Designer 2010 SP1 and WebForms Field Type Editor 2010 SP1.
  4. If you backed up any custom or translated property description files in step 1, you must now restore them on each client machine on which WebForms Designer is installed, as follows:
    • Access the client machine on which WebForms Designer is installed.
    • From the Windows Start menu on that machine, navigate to your program files, and in the SDL Tridion Program Group, select WebForms Designer Folder. This opens Windows Explorer to the folder that contains the installed WebForms Designer application. From this folder, navigate to the Resources subfolder, which contains a file called DefaultPropertyDescriptions.xml.
    • From your backup, restore all your custom property descriptions, and, if present, the language folders containing translated property descriptions. Do not overwrite DefaultPropertyDescriptions.xml.
