Configuring File Types for SQL Content

When you set up an SQL connector for use with WorldServer, you configure one or more SQL tables, which in part describes the role of each column. If a column is translatable, several factors affect which file type is used for the type of content contained in the column (for example, text, HTML, and so on).

Configuring Table Columns

When you configure the columns for each table, the following fields relate to the file type.
FieldComment
Treatment If this field is set to Translate, then the content is translatable and a file type will be applied.
MIME TypeThe value of this field determines how WorldServer treats the content in this column, specifically, which file type is applied to the content.

File Type Groups and MIME Types

We recommend that you set up a file type group to specify how WorldServer handles assets on your SQL database mount. A file type group stores a mapping between a MIME type (equivalent to a file format) and the file type and file type configuration to use for that MIME type. See the File type groups topic for more information.

Global MIME Type Assignments

If you do not choose to use file type groups (the preferred configuration), you can associate MIME types with file types from Management > Administration > Customization. From the Custom component type list, select MIME Types.

From this window, you can assign properties to MIME Types, including which file type to use. For example, the text/html MIME type can be assigned the HTML 4 File Type file type.

Specializing File Types for Specific Target Languages

For all mounts, you can associate one or more configurations with each file type. (To do so, go to Management > Linguistic Tool Setup > File Types.)

In some cases, you may want to associate a different configuration of a file type with each target. Go to Management > Asset Interface System > View and Change Properties. In the lower panel, select File Type and click Update Columns.

Now you can navigate to the top level of a target folder hierarchy, click Change, and select a new file type configuration for that target.
