Configure the settings of the Subtitle formats file type to customize the way Trados Studio processes *.SRT, *.VTT,*.SBV and *.SUB files during translation or review. Subtitle formats replaces the old Subrip file type.
Procedure
- To configure the Subtitle formats file type settings:
- for the active project, go to: Projects view Home tab > Project Settings.
- for all future projects, go to File > Options.
- Expand the File Types > Subtitle formats file type.
- Open the Common page and specify how you want text to be wrapped in the target file:
- enable the Process line breaks automatically option to replace line breaks in the target text with spaces. This automatically wraps the target text to the length specified for the Limit line length to option:

- disable the Process line breaks automatically to extract line breaks in the source file as line feed characters and transfer them to the target file as well.

- On the Embedded Content Processor page, specify whether you want to process any content that may be embedded in the subtitle file: .
- in the Document structure information area, select Add to create extraction rules based on document structure information.
- in the Tag definition rules area, select Add to specify the tags which will be processed and to define them as translatable or non-translatable.
- Click OK to save your settings and close the window.
Preview subtitles
When working with subtitle files in Trados Studio, you can preview subtitle cues in their corresponding video frames. This enables you to verify how your translated subtitles will be encoded in the video.
To preview your translated subtitles open the Preview tab in the Editor view and click
Load Video in the Target tab. As you translate segments, click
Refresh next to the Real-Time Preview option to update your translated subtitles.
