PerfectMatch general information

PerfectMatch is a contextual, 100% match between segments found in files which share a high-degree of content similarity. If you have a translated file, you can translate similar, subsequent files based on the translations in the first file, a process which is called PerfectMatch.

1. Trados offers which include PerfectMatch as part of project creation

Trados Enterprise, Trados Accelerate, and Trados Team include the PerfectMatch step as part of cloud project creation and mid-project updates.

Trados Studio cloud capabilities does not include the PerfectMatch step as part of cloud project creation and mid-project updates.

2. PerfectMatch step during project creation and mid-project updates

The cloud project creation wizard includes a PerfectMatch step, which is optional. During the PerfectMatch step you can select how you want to match your new content based on previously available translated content:
  • You can select Trados projects (and files) to match your new content against.
  • You can upload individual or bulk *.sdlxliff files to match your new content against.

3. PerfectMatch workflow task

All standard workflow templates include a PerfectMatch task, starting the 2nd of July 2024. Projects created before the 2nd of July 2024 do not include the PerfectMatch task.

The PerfectMatch task is an Automated task and is positioned before the Translation Memory Matching task.

You can create custom workflow templates which include one or more instances of the PerfectMatch task.

4. PerfectMatch usage in Trados

Cloud projects created in Trados can be translated via PerfectMatch if the project workflow has the PerfectMatch automated task enabled and if the PerfectMatch step included in the project creation wizard is configured. Note that you can create cloud projects as before and skip the PerfectMatch step in the project creation wizard.

Moreover, if you already have a cloud project, you can add files to it as part of a new batch and configure PerfectMatch for these files.

PerfectMatch settings can be consulted and configured while creating or editing a project template or a project, but you can configure the PerfectMatch step only as part of the project creation wizard and not as part of the project template creation wizard.

After a project is created, you can modify the PerfectMatch mappings from the Settings tab of projects, but, these changes take effect only if the PerfectMatch task is not started. Changing the PerfectMatch mappings from the project Settings tab works best if your workflow includes an Engineering task, and the file is currently worked on as part of the Engineering task.

Note that all projects created before the 2nd of July 2024 do not have the PerfectMatch task available.
