Types of Content Deployer upgrade

Depending on the kind of setup you want to use, you can upgrade the Content Deployer in different ways.

Upgrade to combine the separate Content Deployer microservices

Running the Content Deployer as two separate microservices is discontinued as from Tridion Sites 9.6 .

If you are upgrading from a release older than Tridion Sites 9.6 , you may be running the Content Deployer as two separate microservices, one for the endpoint and another for the worker. If so, you must perform an upgrade that combines the two microservices into one.

To do so, modify the normal upgrade procedure in the following way:
  1. When backing up resources, back up the resources for each microservice separately.
  2. When uninstalling, uninstall both microservices.
  3. After copying resources for the one new microservices, merge the backed-up configuration resources from both microservices with each other before merging them with the new configuration resources.
  4. Ensure that any environment variables set on the target machines of the two old microservices are also set on the target machine on which install the one new microservice.
  5. Restore extensions, along with their configurations, from both microservices into the new microservice.

Upgrade to start using, or continue to use, the new Add-on service feature

If you want to set up the product to make use of the new Add-on service feature, then get your new resources from the Content Delivery\roles\deployer\deployer\ folder. This is a basic Content Deployer, intended for use with extensions. It has no Pipelines, but it does have queues for Tridion Docs and Tridion Sites.

Upgrade to start using, or continue to use, a content mashup

If you currently have a Tridion Sites-only setup and you want to change your setup to a content mashup (that is, an integration with Tridion Docs ), and you don't want to use the new Add-on service, then get your new resources from the Content Delivery\roles\deployer\deployer-dx\ folder. This Content Deployer is preconfigured with Pipelines and queues for Tridion Docs and Tridion Sites.

Upgrade to continue to use a minimal setup, without the Add-on service or a content mashup

If you just want to perform an upgrade of your minimal setup, without changing anything, then get your new resources from the Content Delivery\roles\deployer\deployer-sites\ folder. This Content Deployer is preconfigured with Pipelines and queues for Tridion Sites .
