Defining the Editor Tools

Use the following information to configure the Editor Tools in pcmadmin. See "Defining Tools for Objects" to add these Editor Tools for your users.

If the tool is to be available in the Contenta Web application (if it is designed as a Web tool), be certain to select Web Tool for the Tool Type when defining the tool.

Note the following Arbortext tool definitions for the CompoundAscii Object. The Arbortext Check In and Arbortext Check Out tools are defined for use in Contenta Explorer as a Client Tool, as well as for Contenta Web as a Web Tool.

In addition you can see that the short term (round-trip) editor tool, Arbortext, is only defined for use in Contenta Explorer and the Arbortext Fetch tool is only defined for use in Contenta Web.

By default, the Arbortext Check Out and Arbortext Fetch web client tools automatically launch Arbortext Editor from Contenta Web, similar to how the Arbortext and Arbortext Check Out client tools in Contenta Explorer automatically launch Arbortext. If you do not want the Arbortext web client tools to launch Arbortext (for example, if Arbortext Editor is not installed on Contenta Web clients but is instead used remotely from Contenta), add the launchArbortext AppData setting and set it to no as follows:

  1. In Contenta Explorer, open AppData: click Tools > Options > Tool Preferences
  2. Under Global, click Insert Key and add a key named: Editors
  3. Under the new Editors key, click Insert Key and add a key named: cw_xml_co
  4. Under the new cw_xml_co key, click Insert Value.
  5. In the Value Name field, enter: launchArbortext
  6. In the Value Data field, enter: no

The XMetaL, FrameMaker and Arbortext editors have three tools associated with them:

  • Check Out—use to export an Object’s data to the Contenta checkout directory on your workstation and lock the Object in the Contenta database. You can then modify the Object in your editor while working offline from the Contenta database.
  • Check In—use to import data that had previously been checked-out back into the Contenta database and release the lock.
  • Short Term (Round Trip)—use to edit while working in the Contenta application (that is, not offline from the database). The Object is locked while open for editing. When saved and the editor is exited, the Object is checked back into Contenta.
