Configuring LiveContent S1000D
Configure LiveContent S1000D for your organization and your Windows or Linux environment.
- Keeping the LiveContent S1000D server up and running
By default, the LiveContent S1000D server process terminates after the last attached client process ends gracefully. You can change this behavior so that the server process always stays up and running. You would typically do so if multiple users are connecting to a single server instance of a CD image, to ensure that the application continues to be available for remotely connected users. This setting may be different for different versions of a CD image: even though the IETP may be the same, the way users connect to LiveContent S1000D may differ. - Component properties reference
These are required component properties that you edit in the file components.xml, located in the templates/config/ subdirectory of your skin directory. - Delivering application updates
If you upgraded the LiveContent S1000D application to a new version or modified the application (for example, if you changed the skins or included new logo images), you can distribute these changes without distributing new content by rebuilding your uniquely identified CD image using theCollectionPubcommand. Users who insert your new CD into a computer that already has the content of that CD installed are prompted to install the application updates. - Customizing look & feel and functionality
Customize application templates if you want to change the look & feel and functionality of LiveContent S1000D. Each publication that you produce with LiveContent S1000D Publishing Server can use these customized templates. - Customizing the LiveContent S1000D user interface
You can edit configuration files to customize the layout and behavior of the LiveContent S1000D user interface. - Configuring search
You can configure search categories and advanced search options. - Specifying character encoding
Set the value of the encode_type configitem to specify the character encoding for content generated by the LiveContent S1000D API. - Configuring generic PDF properties
You can dynamically configure the headers and footers for a publication. These headers and footers are defined in an XSL template: etc/styles/s1000d/template_pdf.xsl. The application defines several parameters that it passes to this template. You can define additional parameters yourself. You can also configure a watermark image and configure how certain elements are positioned on the page. - Configuring fonts for PDF localization
To ensure support for targeted languages in PDF output, configure LiveContent S1000D to use a font family that includes a complete set of characters for the language in which the PDF will be produced. - Supporting additional media types
LiveContent S1000D has built in support for many media types. Each media type is represented as an object in LiveContent. You may, however, have a need to use a media type not natively supported in LiveContent. In this case, you can extend the list of supported media types to suit your needs. - Sharing illustrations, multimedia, and other media types
You can share (reuse) media assets within your IETP. - Encrypting illustrations or other media types
You can secure assets (illustrations or other media types) across all publications in the IETP by specifyingtrueas a value for thefigureEncryptionEnableconfiguration option. The publishing process will encrypt the illustrations in the default figures folder, as well as the folders listed in the ietm.figure_folder_control configuration option, which specifies multiple figures folders within the publication, using the 128-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) algorithm. - Compressing large files
You can configure the LiveContent S1000D server to automatically compress large files before transmitting them to the browser to improve the time it takes to load some graphics and other large files in an IETP. - Applicability
Use applicability markup in your XML to enable the presentation of personalized views of content. Views of content can be filtered at runtime based on criteria such as equipment, conditions, skill level, available tools or security clearance. - Customizing the audit trail
The audit trail tracks users' activities within your application. The default audit trail tracks, for example, when users log in or when they open a document. Customize the audit trail by adding your own custom events. To do so, customize existing Javascript. - Generic forms
Generic forms make it easy to capture and record information entered by a user. If there is paperwork for ordering parts or requesting a content update, generic forms can help capture and process that data. If users fill out, print and submit paper forms (such as satisfaction surveys or warranty registrations) today, you can use generic forms to bring that process into your electronic delivery and capture that information for later use. - Adding publication front matter
The front matter of a publication is what users see when they open a publication or when they click Home. Front matter may identify the technical publication, its issue number or distribution restrictions. It may also be an introductory animation or a locator graphic that helps the user navigate the manual. Front matter can be simple XHTML including images or interactive graphics. - Suppressing referenced Data Modules in the table of contents
In order for LiveContent S1000D to resolve Data Modules, they must be referenced in a Publication Module. By default, any referenced Data Modules also appear in the table of contents. If you do not want a specific referenced Data Module to appear in the table of contents, you can suppress it. - Suppressing loading of figures
As a performance optimization, you can configure LiveContent S1000D to suppress the automatic loading of figures when a user steps through a Process or Procedure Data Module and lands on a step with an associated figure. - Configuring where configuration files for Run from CD are located
By default, if a user on a Windows system runs LiveContent S1000D from a CD-ROM, an appropriate location is selected in the All Users application data directory on the Windows client system to store a number of read-write configuration files. You can choose to set a different location than this default, and you can also configure a location for these files for Linux client systems. - Launching CD images
When launching LiveContent S1000D from within a CD image, the IETP content launches immediately. You can, however, configure LiveContent S1000D to prompt you either to install the publication collection, or to run the publication collection directly from within the CD image. - Launching Two IETPs Simultaneously
In order to launch two IETPs on different ports simultaneously, AutoStartID, ProgramTitle, UniqueCDIdentitfier, and port number must be unique. - Localizing a publication or collection
You can configure LiveContent S1000D to display the elements of a single IETM or a collection in a language you specify. - Using Client Certificate Authentication
You can configure LiveContent S1000D to authenticate users with Client Certificate (PKI/X.509) authentication.
