Purging the archive
Archive purging allows an administrator to maintain the amount of information in the archive database for both liability management and minimizing storage size. Archive purging is part of a records retention policy. A records retention policy plans for the management of records, listing types of records and how long they should be kept for the purpose of providing continuing authority to dispose of or transfer records.
Disposal of records requires that you identify:
- records that require retention for a specified period on legal grounds
- records that merit permanent preservation
- records that merit early destruction
This section describes how to use the Archive Manager purge tool, not how to define retention rules upon which you should base archive purging.
