Instructions for configuring the app

The configuration of the Trados app involves specifying a due date for future translation projects and configuring how to integrate translations into Contentful.

The option you select in the Default Localization Method list determines how translated content will be integrated back into Contentful:
  • Entry level localization: Each translation is saved as an individual entry in Contentful. All the translatable fields of each entry are translated, except for the title; the title keeps its initial value and the target language is added to it, so that reviewers can find it more easily. For example, Language Technology and Services [de-DE]. You can then change the title as needed.A screen shot which illustrates the entry-level localization approach.
  • Field level localization: This option uses the Contentful translation framework to detect and update different language variants of the same initial item.
  • Hybrid level localization: This translation strategy is a combination of the first two strategies (field level and entry level), following an enforced rule of which article is translated with which strategy. The main article (the one you selected on the project creation page) is translated using field level localization. Each reference of the main article is then translated based on the container (Contentful field) where the articles are placed. If the container is not localized, then the articles are translated using field level localization. If the container is localized, then the articles are translated using entry level localization.

Other settings

The Translation project default Due Date (days) setting represents the number of days added by default when calculating the due date. For example, if the value is 5 and you create a project on the 1st of February, the due date of that project is set by default to the 6th of February. You can specify a different due date than the default one whenever you create a new project.

You can configure Language Mapping settings through the app configuration menu:A screen shot of the app configuration menu.
  • From the Default Localization Method list, select Field-level localization.
  • In the Trados language code column, the language code used in Trados is displayed.
  • In the Contentful equivalent language code, add the code you are using in Contentful for each language.

Integration features:
  • Only translate localized Contentful fields: If enabled, the integration sends to translation only those fields that are marked as localized (content type field option). If disabled, the integration sends to translation every field that can be translated; in this case, when the translation is imported back, the integration changes the content type field to be localized for every translatable field extracted.
  • Exclude Assets from translation: If enabled, the integration will not send to translation the assets (Media entry) linked to the selected article. If disabled, the integration will send the title and description of the asset for translation.
  • Publish Entries/Assets on import: If enabled, the integration will publish the entries on import. If disabled, the integration will not publish the entries on import; they will remain in the Draft or Changed status.
  • Enable setting of custom attributes: If enabled, you will be able to set custom attributes available to you in Trados when creating projects.
  • Enable upload of single file for translation project: If enabled, when creating projects, the entry selected and all the links in it will be merged into a single XML file. This helps translators go through a project faster if the entries have little content. If disabled, when creating projects, the entry selected and all the links in it will be represented by different XML files. This is useful for translators if the entries have a large amount of content in them.
  • Enable new view for selecting referenced entries/assets in the create project page: If enabled, when creating a project and selecting an entry, you can click on the entry and manually select which references you want to be sent for translation.
