Auto-Propagation
Auto-propagation means that Trados Studio applies the text in a confirmed translation to all the other segments in the file that have similar source content.
Auto-propagation takes place when you confirm a segment translation. If the segment has any similar segments, then depending on the settings you have chosen, the translation may be applied automatically to the similar segments or you will be asked if you want the application to take place.
By default, translations are only auto-propagated to empty target segments and to segments that contain a translation which has not been confirmed. You can change this to enable exact matches to also auto-propagate to already confirmed segments.
Auto-propagation for reviewing files
You can also use Auto-propagation when reviewing files. Auto-propagation takes place when you approve (confirm) or reject a translation. Depending on your settings, the auto-propagated segments are then automatically approved or rejected, or have tracked changes applied to them with the new auto-propagated text.
Auto-propagation settings
The default settings determine:
- Whether or not auto-propagation is enabled
- Whether exact matches should also auto-propagate and update already confirmed segments
- Whether you are prompted to auto-propagate when you confirm a translation
- What status is given to a segment that has been translated by auto-propagation
The default settings are displayed when you select from the Ribbon and then select from the navigation tree, in the Options dialog.
Auto-propagation in the Online Editor
When working with cloud project files from a browser, confirmed translations auto-propagate only to unconfirmed segments. Unlike Trados Studio, the Online Editor does not have an option to enable exact matches to also auto-propagate to already confirmed segments.
