Specifying default languages

Specify default languages to automatically select a specific source and target language for your future projects. When creating new projects, these default languages are selected automatically for you. You can always manually update the project languages of each particular project from the New Project Wizard. Specifying default project languages is particularly useful if you usually translate projects in a specific language pair.

About this task

The Editor > Languages settings determine:
  • what default source and target languages are used for all new translations. This enables you to quickly start a new translation if you use the same source and target languages for all your translations
  • whether or not you are prompted to manually specify the source and target language when Trados Studio cannot automatically detect these from the project files.

To specify a default language pair for all future projects:

Procedure

  1. Go to File > Options from the Ribbon.
  2. In the Options dialog, in the navigation tree, select Editor > Languages. The language settings are displayed on the right.
  3. Under Default Languages, select your default source and target language.
Tip: To select the source and target language easier, type the language code instead of the language name. For example FR-CA for French (Canada).
  4. Select OK to save the settings and to close the Options dialog.
