Install and manage AppStore plug-ins

Trados Studio integrates with the RWS AppStore to give you easy access to apps that extend the functionality of Trados Studio. These are apps created by RWS or by third-party developers.

Before you begin

You need an Internet connection to use the RWS AppStore. To download public apps, make sure you are signed in to Trados Studio with your RWS ID.

Download and install an app

About this task

You can open the RWS AppStore either from Trados Studio or from a browser.

To download and install apps from within Trados Studio:

Procedure

  1. Open the Add-ins tab Trados Studio and select RWS AppStore.
This opens the RWS AppStore on the Installed Plug-ins page.
  2. Click on the AppStore tab to see the entire list of apps available for Trados Studio. You can filter apps by Category or Pricing. Click Sort by at the top right-hand corner of the page to organize results by Most Downloaded, Most reviewed or Top Rated.
  3. Select the app that you want to add to Trados Studio and check its description in the right-hand pane. This usually includes information on how to access the app after installing it, and how to use it with Trados Studio.
  4. Click the download icon next to the name of the selected app. Depending on their installation type, apps show one of the following download icons:
    • Installs the plug-in automatically. These are plug-ins hosted directly on SDL OOS and are available for one-click installation.
    • Downloads the app installation files without installing the app. These are apps for which you can configure the installation. Once the installation files are downloaded, run the separate installer to manually add the app to Trados Studio. The installation files download to the location specified in your AppStore settings. By default, this is %AppData%\SDL Community\AppStore Integration\Downloads.
    • Redirects to the web version of the RWS AppStore. These are apps that are not hosted on SDL OOS and require separate installation. Once the RWS AppStore downloads the installation files, run the separate installer to manually add the apps to Trados Studio. The installation files download to the location specified in your browser settings. By default, this is \Users\<username>\Downloads.
    • Indicates an incompatible app. These are apps that cannot be installed because they require a newer version of Trados Studio. Check the minimum requirements information in the app description, then update Trados Studio.
  5. When Trados Studio finishes downloading the app, it displays the following confirmation message: Download complete. Restart Trados Studio to finish installing the plug-ins. Click this message to restart Trados Studio and integrate the app. In the case of apps that download the installation files without installing the app, Trados Studio clicking this message will open the Download location instead of restarting Trados Studio. Manually install the app from the Download location then restart Trados Studio yourself.
  6. Access the installed app from the location indicated in the app description. Usually, apps that you install manually create a dedicated shortcut on the Add-ins tab in Trados Studio.

Enable Private AppStore mode

You can also use the integrated AppStore to host public and custom Trados Studio apps specifically for your organization. With private distribution you can create your own, private hosted version of the RWS AppStore, and distribute internally the apps that you approve for users in your organization. Activate the Private AppStore option under Application Downloads and enter the URL where your internal Appstore integration service is deployed on your server. This will enable you to also retrieve private app results when browsing through the RWS AppStore.
