Administering users and groups of users
In WorldServer, user administration operates on many different levels to provide a high degree of flexibility over the sections that each user can have access to. You can organize users into user types, workgroups, vendors, and clients.
- Setting up user types
User types are a way of defining user roles and responsibilities in WorldServer. By assigning permissions to a user type, you can specify the actions that the users in it can perform in WorldServer and the information available to them, depending on their role in the localization process. For example, project managers usually need access to reports that might not be relevant to translators or reviewers. - Creating and managing users
A user is any person who plays a role in localizing content in WorldServer. However, it is more than just an account which gives access to a program—you can group users into user types, clients, vendors or workgroups and assign them workflow roles to completely adapt their WorldServer experience to their role and position. You also need users to create other objects in WorldServer, such as workflows. - Organizing users into workgroups
Workgroups are groups of related users, such as departments within your organization, and you can link them to project types so that WorldServer can automatically assign the appropriate users to tasks. You can include a user in as many workgroups as you need. - Creating and managing vendors
Vendors are organizations that translate or localize content. In WorldServer, you can assign a vendor to each cost model, so that you can compare project translation costs based on word count and price per word between prospective vendors. Often, vendors have a corresponding workflow role, so that certain human steps can be assigned to a specific vendor. If you configured the WorldServer Report Center on your environment, you can also view several out-of-the-box reports related to vendors. - Creating and managing clients
Clients are groups of users who submit content and require translation services. For example, a client can include an entire organization or a department within an organization. In WorldServer, you can create and manage clients by going to Management > User Setup > Clients. - Adding announcements to the Home page
Announcements are a way in which administrators can inform users of various events such as company-related news, upgrades, or potential downtime. - Deleting announcements from the Home page
As an administrator, you can delete announcements when they are no longer relevant. - Configuring password recovery settings for users
You have two options for configuring password recovery settings for your users, depending on your company's security policy. Thus, when users select Forgot your password on the WorldServer login page, you can either allow them to reset their password and add a new one themselves or to have them ask the WorldServer administrator to change their password through an email message.
