To optimize the performance of Archive Manager, you can scale up (change the number of threads used) or scale out (set up the Archiver on a separate machine).
Scaling up the Archiver You can configure the number of threads that the Archiver uses in order to tweak archiving performance and CPU load. By default, the Archiver is configured to 2 threads. If you feel that archiving is too slow, you may want to increase this value. If, instead, you feel that your CPU load is too high, you may want to decrease this value.
Scaling out the Archiver By default, the Archiver (the software component that performs the actual archiving of content) runs as a part of the Archive Manager Modules, which are added to the Content Deployer. Only if you experience serious and persistent performance problems with archiving, consider scaling out the Archiver to a separate machine.
