Adding a YouTube video to a Web page

Create a Multimedia Component using the YouTube Video Schema to add the YouTube video to the Content Manager. You can then link in the video in a Format Area field, or in the Media field of a Article or List Item, or add it standalone to the page by using a 1-column, 2-column or 3-column layout.

Procedure

  1. Access the Content Manager Explorer Web site.
  2. In the 400 Example Site Publication, navigate to and select the Folder where you want to create a Multimedia Component for the YouTube video.
  3. In the Create tab, open the New Component > New Multimedia Component.
  4. Define the new Multimedia Component:
    1. Enter a name for your Multimedia Component.
    2. Select the Schema YouTube Video.
    3. Fill in the following fields:
      • Resource Type—select GIF, JPG, or PNG
      • Multimedia TypeUploaded
      • Load from Disk—click to upload a placeholder image to the Multimedia Component (shown as a still on the Web site before the video is played).
    4. Select the Metadata tab.
    5. Fill in the following fields:
      • YouTube Video ID—the string in a YouTube video URL that follows the v= part.
      • Heading—the title to place above the embedded video.
    6. Click Save and Close.
  5. Open your Web site in Experience Manager.
  6. Define the new Multimedia Component:
    1. Select Insert Content > Create and Insert New Content.
    2. Choose New > Multimedia Component.
    3. Select YouTube Video and click Choose.
    4. Enter a Title and select a Folder to create the content in.
    5. Click Create and Insert Content.

      Dummy content is added to the Page.

    6. Click the Properties icon in the top right corner of the Page, and in the Metadata section click Edit.  
    7. Fill in the following fields:
      • YouTube Video ID—the string in a YouTube video URL that follows the v= part.
      • Heading—the title to place above the embedded video
    8. Click Save and Close.
  7. To insert the YouTube video in an existing Format Area field:
    1. Start editing Format Area field.
    2. Select Insert > Image.
    3. Select the Multimedia Component with YouTube Video.
    4. Click Update Preview to start the video.
