Example: Opening a single file for translation

This topic provides a detailed example of how to open a single file for translation using the Translate Single Document command in Starter.

About this task

Assume you have a document called MyDocument.doc that you want to translate from English to German. You also have a translation memory (TM) called MyTM.sdltm and a termbase called MyTermbase.sdltb.

Procedure

  1. Select File > Open > Translate Single Document.
  2. In the Open Document dialog, select MyDocument.doc and click Open.
  3. In the Translation Memory and Document Settings dialog, select English (United States) as the Source Language and German (Germany) as the Target Language from the drop-down lists.
  4. Select your TM by clicking Use and selecting File-based Translation Memory from the drop-down list.
  5. In the Open File-based Translation Memory dialog, select MyTM.sdltm and click Open. The translation memory is added to the list.
  6. Add your termbase by selecting Advanced and then going to Language Pairs > All Language Pairs >Termbases in the navigation tree of the Project Template Settings page. Then, click Use and select File-based MultiTerm Termbase from the drop-down list. In the Open Termbase dialog, select My Termbase.sdltb and click Open.
  7. Click OK once to close the Project Template Settings dialog and then click OK to close the Translation Memory and Document Settings dialog also.
    A project is automatically created for you. Use the Project Settings dialog to change the translation memory and termbase selections and to specify other settings.
