Categories and Keywords
In SDL Tridion 2009, changes have been made to Categories and Keywords functionality to allow you to create multi-leveled hierarchical taxonomy trees, providing you with a rich classification scheme for your content.
Taxonomies define a knowledge map of your content domain. You can publish taxonomies and use them on the presentation side to drive the navigation model in your Web sites and create content-driven navigational model allowing users to navigate a Web site via the content which is relevant to them, rather than using a traditional fixed navigation model.
The following is an image of a taxonomy in the Content Manager Explorer:
In SDL Tridion 2009, Keywords can contain nested Keywords defining a deeper level of classification (to any level of depth). You can also add Metadata to Categories and Keywords by applying a Metadata Schema to the item.
As well as a Value and Description, you can now define the following properties for Keywords:
- Key—a text value that is unique across the Blueprint and that can be used to associate an external resource to the Keyword, for example a product ID
- Abstract—a check box to indicate whether the Keyword is an 'abstract' Keyword as opposed to 'concrete'. An abstract Keyword contains a logical grouping of Keywords defining a deeper level of classification. For example, the Country Keyword Netherlands may have an abstract Keyword Provinces in which Keywords are defined containing the actual values for the Provinces of the Netherlands. You cannot classify content against an abstract Keyword.
- Related Keywords—are used to create non parent/child Keyword relationships such as see also links and related topics. For example, you can relate a Holiday Type Keyword to Sports Equipment Keyword.
You can reorganize your taxonomy using cut, copy, and paste, and Publish your taxonomy at a Category level.
