Creating Target Groups

You create Target Groups in Content Manager Explorer. (You can only create Target Groups with a Definition tab; Target Groups with a Context Expression tab can only be created indirectly, through an integrated with SDL CMA.) When you add a Target Group, you specify the Customer Characteristics and Tracking Key values. You can include Target Groups in other Target Groups.

Before you begin

To create a Target Group, you must have Customer Management rights within the Publication in which you are creating a Target Group.

About this task

For example, if you have a Web site that features software reviews and you want to show visitors that have indicated interest in Graphic Design software a summary of new Mac OS graphic design products when they access your Review page, create a Target Group with the following definition:

Customer Characteristics
  • Profession = Graphic Designer
  • Operating System = Mac OS

You base these characteristics on information that you have obtained directly from your visitors through a Web form.

Tracking Keys
  • Graphics and Publishing > 5
  • Mac OS > 5

The example Target Group applies to: Graphic Designers that work on Mac operating systems, and that have accessed Graphics and Publishing articles and Mac OS articles more than five times.
