Configuring linked picklists in custom fields

When you create custom fields of the picklist type, you can configure the picklist options so that these are linked when displayed in Trados Customer Portal andTrados Enterprise.

About this task

Configuring linked picklists ensures that when you select a value (let's say Value 1 out of several values) for Custom Field 1, you can choose among the subvalues of Value 1 automatically. Let's consider an example. You have a picklist which has one of the following 2 values: USA, Asia. Both the USA and the Asia value have several subvalues up to a third-level tier. How can I configure the picklist, so that when selecting the USA value only its subvalues will be shown for each tier? Separate the tiers with a colon (:) like this:
  • USA:regionA:code1 ; USA:regionA:code2 ; USA:regionA:code3 ; USA:regionB:code4 ; USA:regionB:code5 ; USA:regionB:code6
  • Asia:regionC:code7 ; Asia:regionC:code8 ; Asia:regionC:code9 ; Asia:regionD:code10 ; Asia:regionD:code11 ; Asia:regionD:code12
After you finish configuring the picklist custom field in Trados Enterprise, users who create projects in either Trados Customer Portal or Trados Enterprise can see the following:
  • USA
    • regionA
      • code1
      • code2
      • code3
    • regionB
      • code4
      • code5
      • code6
  • Asia
    • regionC
      • code7
      • code8
      • code9
    • regionD
      • code10
      • code11
      • code12
