Creating a new topic in Draft Space

Create a new topic and insert it in the document at the location of your choice.

Before you begin

Adding a topic to a document requires the following:
  • You have general rights for editing the document.
  • The map that will contain the topic has a status that allows you to modify it. If the map is released, you need to first create a new version of the map before you can add topics.

About this task

We describe the action performed from the Outline tab. It is also available from the Structure menu.

Procedure

  1. In the Outline tab, locate the existing component (topic or map) under which you want to create the new topic.
  2. Right-click the component and select Insert new component.
  3. In the Folder step, locate and select the folder where you want to save your new topic, and then click Next.
  4. In the Template step, select the type of topic you want to create from the list of available types, and then click Next.
  5. In the Properties step, enter a title for your topic.

This title will be used for both your content (the title that a reader will see) and the topic itself (the title of your topic in the folder where topics are stored). You can then modify each independently after the topic is created.

  6. Add any other details that you wish to define for the new topic, and when ready, click Insert.
  7. Select Save from the top toolbar to save the changes to the map.

Results

A new topic is inserted in the selected location in the document. If needed, you can move that new topic around in the document (and map) using the topic's context (right-click) menu.
