Installing Online Editor

Online Editor is available as a separate component that integrates with WorldServer. It combines the core capabilities of a modern desktop translation tool with a friendly, web-based interface designed to boost productivity and to ensure a positive user experience.

Starting with WorldServer 11.8, you can make Online Editor available on your environment in two ways: either by deploying it via Chef Solo or by installing it via a dedicated installer.

In a standard, Chef-based deployment, you need to deploy the Online Editor services and to configure WorldServer to connect to these services. The installer combines these two processes in a simpler and friendlier manner. In either case, you need to grant specific permissions to your WorldServer user types after installing Online Editor.

The following diagram shows a basic deployment that reflects the integration between WorldServer and the Online Editor services:A diagram that shows a typical deployment setup with two separate machines.

In a public-facing environment, SDL Editor Service and SDL Editor Service Router need to be accessible through the internet.

The machine on which you plan to install Online Editor must use Windows Server 2022 or 2019 (64-bit) as its operating system.

Note that you can also install Online Editor on the same machine as WorldServer. However, the best performance is achieved by running them on separate machines. In either case, install Online Editor only after you have installed WorldServer and the File Type Support (FTS) Server.

Hardware requirements for the Online Editor machine

Minimum hardware requirements: 2 CPU cores at 2.40 GHz each and 4 GB of RAM.
Recommended hardware configuration: At least 4 CPU cores at 2.40 GHz each and 8 GB of RAM.

Load testing results suggest that on a WorldServer machine with 10 workflow engines where 4 of the 16 GB of RAM are allocated to Apache Tomcat, you can successfully upload ten 90000-word assets at the same time.
