Before Importing

Perform the following before importing.

  • Validate the file contents, for example, that the references are valid and do not error, by opening the files in the FrameMaker application.

Open the book file and, from the book file, open all files in the book.

If there are errors when opening any file, resolve the error(s) before importing the files into Contenta.

  • When validating references, make sure that you use relative rather than absolute paths within FrameMaker.

This ensures that the references within the data set remain valid in any location on the file system which is essential since the checkout directories used during editing sessions can be different from one session to the next.

  • Make certain that all the graphics display correctly. The file extensions are not used as part of the object names. When the user checks out the book after import has completed, the object names are used to create the filenames for the respective objects’ data. An extension is added to each file based on object type.
  • Before importing double check to make sure that you do not have any FrameMaker backup files because DI will import them and this can cause problems.
  • Create the hierarchy you want created in Contenta on your system.

See the Creating the File Structure for Dynamic Import for information about how to structure the folders and files on your system before you import.
