Modifying the default value for User Password

You can specify a default value for the User Password in the Property Sheet.

The default permission for the Password field in the User’s Desktop Property Sheet is:

  • The sysadmin has permission to modify the user’s Password. This is done by selecting the User’s Desktop, opening the Property Sheet, and modifying the Password field.
  • The user does not have permission to edit the Password field in his or her own Desktop Property Sheet.

To allow the User to modify the Password field, you must assign the Edit Lock permission to the Desktop Object for the User or Role. However, if the User's are allowed to edit their Desktop Property Sheet, they also have edit access to the Access Level and Tool Box fields and could assign sysadmin privileges.

At this time, if the User does reassign their sysadmin permissions, an error message appears when the User tries to access other Objects on their desktop. You can change the permission for modifying the Access Level and Tool Box field to No so that the User cannot change these fields. However, if the Access Level and Tool Box field fields are set to No, the sysadmin also will not have access to change them. For these reasons RWS does not recommended that you allow Users to edit the Password field.
