Modifying the PCMObjects File

You can use the PCM Objects option on the Dynamic Import Activity menu for automated updates to the PCMObjects file if you:

  • created a new, custom object based on one of the default objects (the new object is a class type 71, a compound object type)—the Pcm Objects option adds the object definition, the mime type property sheet field, and any custom (new) property field sheet fields for the new object.
  • added a property sheet field for one of the default objects (or an object based on one of the default objects)—the Pcm Objects option rewrites the property field sheet definitions for the object; the new field is added.

This process uses the current Global settings (that is, the Global settings specified under the first tab in the Dynamic Import interface) so a valid user, password, server, database, and socket have to be specified.

The following property sheet fields are not added when you use the Pcm Objects option:

  • Name
  • Document Type (may be added manually)
  • Access Level
  • Fields that are not displayable

You can manually edit the PCMObjects file to:

  • eliminate property sheet fields that you do not want displayed in the Dynamic Import interface
  • add fields that are not automatically added if you use the Pcm Objects option

If you edit the PCMObjects file to eliminate or add fields for an object then use the Pcm Objects option, note that the PCMObjects file is rewritten—your edits are discarded.
