Opening a single file for translation
Use the Translate Single Document command to open a single file for translation in Starter.
About this task
Note: The options that you define in the Translate Single Document dialog, when you first open a document for that language pair, become the default options for this language pair. The settings are displayed in the Options dialog and are used next time you open a document.
Procedure
- Click File > Open > Translate Single Document.
The Open Document dialog is displayed.
- Select the document to be translated and click Open.
- If this is the first time you have opened this document, the Open Document dialog is displayed. Go to step 3.
- If the Select Project File dialog is displayed, the file you are opening is already part of an existing project. Select Open existing project file to open the partially translated file and click OK. The file is opened in the Editor window for translating.
- In the Open Document dialog, select the Source Language and Target Language from the drop-down lists.
- If you want to use a translation memory during translation, select the translation memory to use in the Translation Memory and Automated Translation section. In Starter, you can only use one translation memory at a time, the translation memory can only be file-based and the size of the translation memory is limited based on the type of license you purchased.
- If you want to use a translation memory stored locally in a file, click Add and select File-based Translation Memory from the drop-down list.
- If you want to create a new file-based translation memory, click Create and select New File-based Translation Memory from the drop-down list.
Note: Click Settings if you want tomodify the settings of the translation memory. Click Import and Export to to or data from the translation memory. - If you want to use a termbase during translation:
- Click the Advanced button to display the Project Template Settings dialog box.
- Select Language Pairs > All Language Pairs > Termbases from the navigation tree. The Termbases page is displayed. Select your termbases.
- If you want to specify additional settings for translation, make the required changes and click OK to close the dialog box and return to the Open Document dialog box.
- Click OK. The translatable content of the source language document is identified, segmented and placed in an
*.sdlxlifffile. The file is opened in the Editor window for translating.A project is automatically created for you. Use the Project Settings dialog box to change the translation memory and termbase selections and to specify other settings.
