SDL Language Cloud Machine Translation

The SDL Language Cloud service is accessible from SDL Trados Studio and provides machine translation (MT) engines that generate smart automatic translation results. Language Cloud AdaptiveMT is a self-learning machine translation system that can also be employed from Trados Studio to reduce post-editing.

Language Cloud services

The Trados Studio integration with Trados Studio gives you access to:
  • Baseline MT Engines - For the most common of the language pairs, Language Cloud has a Baseline MT engine that you can use for translating general content. For domain-specific translations, connect to specialized MT engines, provided that you have a Language Cloud subscription package that allows for this.
  • Industry Engines - These are industry-specific MT engines that are trained using content specific to a particular domain (e.g. Automotive, Travel or Electronics). Connect to engines to get translation results that better fit the context of your source text.
  • Adaptive Engines - These can be created by the user from Trados Studio and adapt real-time to the terminology and style of the translator, based on each individual post-edited segment that is sent back to the engine.
  • Language Cloud Terminology provider - this cloud-based terminology provider extends the array of hit results provided in the Termbase window while translating. It allows access to a shared, online pool of specialized terms which are validated by the community on a regular basis.
  • Custom Dictionaries - These are *.tbx or *.xml files containing your own terminology. Dictionaries enhance your MT engines further to create smarter MT suggestions. If you subscribe to a machine translation package that includes dictionaries, you can upload custom dictionaries from your Language Cloud account in order to make them available in Studio. To create Language Cloud dictionaries from SDL MultiTerm termbases, export your termbase data to a TBX (LISA 2002) *.xml file and upload the export file to a Language Cloud dictionary. For information on how to export termbases from MultiTerm, see the Exporting termbase data topic in the SDL MultiTerm help.

Subscription packages

Subscribe to one of the available Language Cloud packages for monthly access to MT engines. Each Language Cloud package offers access to a different number of characters that you can translate from Trados Studio using your selected Language Cloud engines and dictionaries. For each package, you can create API keys and give access to your resources to multiple users.

Account access

  • If you have a Trados Studio license - Use your SDL Account credentials to log into your Language Cloud account. When you log in for the first time, Trados Studio automatically creates a Language Cloud account for you and assigns a 30 days trial package to it. When your trial expires, you can choose to subscribe to either the free or to one of the paid MT packages. After logging in, you can manage your Language Cloud services from File > Language Cloud.
  • If you have a Trados Studio trial - Create a Language Cloud account and use these credentials to log in to Language Cloud from Trados Studio. After logging in, go to File > Language Cloud and subscribe to one of the available MT packages, or activate the free 30 days trial.
  • If you have an API Key - Log in using an API key to access the engines and dictionaries available for a Language Cloud account. API keys are usually created by the project manager to give multiple team members simultaneous access to the same Language Cloud resources. You cannot access information about the Language Cloud account when logging in with an API key.
