Specifying TM custom field values
You can assign custom field values to new translation units (TUs) when updating the translation memory (TM). For example, if the TM contains a field called Usage, you could assign the value, Printed Guides to indicate that this translation should only be used for printed guides as opposed to help.

You can specify translation memory custom field values to assign to new TUs when updating the TM. For example, if the TM contains a field called Usage, you could assign the value, Printed Guides to indicate that this translation should only be used for printed guides as opposed to help. In order to assign custom field values to a TU, the custom fields must already exist in the TM settings.
Procedure
- Decide where you want to specify the TM field update settings, by displaying the Translation Memory and Automated Translation settings page. If you want the field update to apply to:
- The TM in the active file and the TMs for all other target languages in the project, go to the Projects view, select a project, and then go to .
- All future TMs, go to .
- Select values for each available field in the list.
- If the fields for which you want to select values are not present in the list:
- Select Translation Memory and Automated Translation.
- Select a TM, and, on the horizontal bar, select Settings.
- In the Translation Memory Settings dialog, select Fields and Settings.
- Select Add and then specify the available columns to configure a field: Name, Type, Picklist and Allow Multiple Values. Repeat the process to add as many fields as necessary.
- Select OK.
- In the Translation Memory and Automated Translation navigation, select Update, and then select the values of your choice for the available fields.
- Select OK.
