Releasing objects

By releasing an object you prevent any further changes to the current version of its content.

Before you begin

In order to change the status on an object, you need to have the user rights to perform the specific transition you are attempting. These rights are defined by an administrator as part of the workflow designed for your company.

About this task

Your content changes continuously but there is a point when you need to keep a fixed state of it and create another version of it for all further changes. In Tridion Docs this is called releasing the content. This is done by changing the status of the object to a status of the Released type. Whenever an object is set to a released status, making changes to the content requires the creation of a new version or branch of this object.

The topic example described here can be applied to maps and images. Publication objects, on the other hand, can not be released manually.

Procedure

  1. In Publication Manager's Content tab, in the left-hand pane, right-click a topic and select Properties.
  2. In the Workflow tab, select a released type of status from the Status drop-down list.
The list will show only the statuses available to your user group. The statuses can have any name, as this is customized for your company before the system is used. By default, the typical released status is named Released.

Results

Your topic is now released. Any attempt to change the content will trigger a request to create a new version or a new branch. This change of status can not be undone.
