Content Manager clients

Content Manager clients are client-side user applications for creating content, or server-side applications that connect to the Content Manager. Clients connect to the Content Manager through the Core Service, IIS, or WebDAV.

The following diagram provides an overview of the Content Manager clients you can use to create content:

The following list describes the Content Manager clients:

Content Manager Explorer
The Content Manager Explorer runs in a browser so you can access the interface by typing the address of the Content Manager in the address bar of your browser. The following products, if installed, are integrated into the Content Manager Explorer:
  • Translation Manager is for managing your translation projects.
  • Audience Manager (deprecated as of SDL Tridion Sites 9.1) enables marketing departments to gather information about audiences, such as interests and characteristics. Audience Manager consists of Contacts that you manage in Address Books and Segments.
  • Outbound E-mail (a deprecated feature) is for marketing departments that need to implement and manage e-mail communication campaigns. Outbound E-mail consists of Mailings and Distribution Lists.
Experience Manager
The Experience Manager runs in a browser as an editing interface for your staging Web site, so you can access the interface by typing the address of the staging Web site in the address bar of your browser.
Template Builder
Template developers use the Template Builder client application to combine Template Building Blocks (TBBs) into a Compound Component Template (CTs) or Compound Page Template (PTs).
Dreamweaver Templating
Web site designers can use Adobe Dreamweaver to create and edit Adobe Dreamweaver Templates (.dwt files) for use in Compound Templates. The client connects to the Content Manager using WebDAV—to enable this you need to set up a site that connects to the Content Manager using WebDAV.
.NET templating
Template developers use .NET assembly templating to create and upload .NET assemblies that can be used as Template Building Blocks in a Compound Template.
Visio Workflow Designer
Visio Workflow Designer is an plug-in for Microsoft Visio that enables users to create and configure Workflow Process Definitions for the Content Manager. Visio Workflow Designer runs on a client machine and communicates with Visio Workflow Server on the Content Manager server.
WebDAV connector
The WebDAV Connector allows users to navigate through and use Publications and Folders as if they were a file system. It provides users with easy access to Schemas, Components, Multimedia Components, and Templates so that they can add, edit, delete, and move Content Manager items as if they were part of a Windows file system using external applications. The WebDAV Connector requires client-side and server-side configuration.
