A locale is a user-defined combination of a language specific to a place (such as English spoken in the United States) and a default encoding that is used to store content in this language (such as ISO-8559 or UTF-8).
Procedure
- In WorldServer, go to
- Select Add.
- On the Locale: New Locale page, do the following:
- In the Name box, enter the name of the locale that you want to add.
This name is displayed in the AIS properties, in the linkage editor, and whenever users create projects. In other cases, such as in translation memories or in terminology databases, the language is displayed, not the name of the locale.
- In the Language list, select the language that you want to associate with the locale.
- In the Default Encoding list, select the default encoding of the locale.
Note: If possible, avoid creating separate locales with different encodings for the same language. Such a scenario would also require creating separate cost models, separate vendors (because a vendor can only be associated with one cost model), and at least two user accounts for each user (because a user can only be associated with one vendor). This makes reporting more complicated and consumes additional user licenses.
- Optional: Next to Members, associate the appropriate users with the locale by moving them from the Available users column to the Users in locale column.
Note: You can also associate users with locales when you create users, especially you are setting up WorldServer for the first time.
- Select Save.
